CAMP WILDWOOD HISTORY

Camp wildwood has thrived as a family run sleepaway camp since 1953. Boys return summer after summer to pass on traditions to the next generation of campers. IN fact, the pictures below from 1955 include the grandfather of a current counselor!

Camp Wildwood was founded as a boys camp in Bridgton, Maine in 1953 by Leo Mayer. In 1980, former camper Mark Meyer purchased stake in the camp and later brought on his brother Peter as a partner. The two of them successfully navigated the ever expanding sleepaway camp industry for thirty-seven summers before selling the camp and shifting the directorship over to Louis, Teddy and Obie.

Today, the directors have continued the lasting traditions that the boys of 1953 held so dear. Camp Wildwood has successfully continued to adapt to the changing times by adding new activities, building new traditions, and modernizing its facilities. The boys of Camp Wildwood continue to be raised by boys of Camp Wildwood. The last three generations of directors have been home grown from Camp Wildwood campers who were all molded by the traditions that started in 1953. That is the power and history of Camp Wildwood.
